The firm’s elder law attorney, Elizabeth P. Allen, gave a presentation before two diverse groups recently. On January 12, 2016, Ms. Allen gave a presentation concerning the Basics of Special Needs Planning to the Small ALF Coalition in Tampa.  That organization represents owners of small assisted living facilities and other healthcare professionals who service the senior and disabled populations.  Ms. Allen talked about the different kinds of special needs trusts for people with disabilities, the reason for needing such trusts and alternatives to special needs trusts, including the recently enabled ABLE Act.

On January 22, 2016, in conjunction with Serene Home Care, Ms. Allen spoke to residents at San Lorenzo Apartments in Tampa about the basics of estate planning. This discussion emphasized the legal documents everyone should have to protect them in the event of death or incapacitation and the often expense and time consuming results when such documents do not exist.
