Long-term care usually means that a person needs assistance from another individual in order to do what we call the activities of daily living. That means that you need help dressing or going to the bathroom, hygiene, transferring from room to room or getting in and out the bed or eating. This is what we call long-term care. When a person gets to the point of needing that type of care, they’re usually starting looking at either home healthcare, assisted living facilities, or even nursing home care. These are very expensive, so if there’s a possibility that there’s going to be a chronic condition in your future, then it’s a good idea to be able to plan for long-term care in order to protect your assets and get you qualified for any benefits that might be out there to help you pay for that care.
