Probably not. Medicaid has a five year look back period, which means if you apply, they’re going to look back five years to find out what assets if any you’ve transferred. Now Medicaid has certain rules that says some assets don’t count while others do. It also has rules that say that some transfers can be given to certain people and it’s okay, so the blanket statement of can I just give assets to my kids really isn’t the question that needs to be asked. It’s what you have, what as given away, and how much was given away. Really to answer those questions, you need to see an elder law attorney.
